A US citizen was convicted Friday in New York on charges that he conspired to kill Americans overseas as an al-Qaeda terrorist. A jury in Brooklyn convicted Muhanad Mahmoud al Farekh on nine counts. The 31-year-old al Farekh, who was born in Houston, faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced by US District Judge Brian M Cogan, the US Justice Department said in a news release. The department said the evidence produced at trial showed that al Farekh was involved in a variety of terrorist activities, including a car bombing on a US military installation in Afghanistan in 2009.
