U.S. stocks closed mixed Monday as traders anticipated an interest rate hike on Wednesday. In U.S. economic news, the Federal Open Market Committee is set to raise rates at the conclusion of its two-day meeting on Wednesday. Traders generally expect the Federal Reserve to hike three times this year, after the central bank raised rates in December for the second time in just about a decade. The dollar traded little changed. Light sweet crude oil for April delivery dropped 9 cents to $48.40 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while gold futures added $1.70 to $1,203 per ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average lost 21.50, or 0.10 percent, to 20,881.48. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.87, or 0.04 percent, to 5,875.78. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 14.06, or 0.24 percent, to 5,875.78.
