Following crisis talks in Rome on Saturday, Italian President Sergio Mattarella said he will be taking steps soon to usher in a new government. Stating that Italy needed a fully functioning government as soon as possible, Mattarella said that in the "coming hours" he will be evaluating the talks with the political actors, dpa reported. The head of state has been meeting with representatives of the various political parties since Thursday evening in order to find a candidate capable of forming a majority government following the resignation of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. He provided no definite time as to when such a decision would be made.
