The Shura Council remained adamant to its previous decision advising reducing working hours in the private sector to 40 hours per week to allow its personnel enjoy a two-day weekly vacation. In its 16th ordinary session held under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Dr. Mohammed bin Amin Al-Jeffery, the Shura Council sticked to its former decision that a laborer should not be asked to remain on duty more than 40 hours a week and not more than eight hours per day and that working hours in Ramadan, Muslim's fasting month, should not exceed 35 hours in a week and not more than seven hours a day. In a statement following the meeting, Dr. Yahya bin Abdullah Al-Samaan, Assistant Shoura Council Speaker, said the Council also vetoed the recommendation of the Human Management and Resources committee which called for disagreeing with the government's amendments on Articles 98-100- 104.
