Wajh played an important role at time of the unification of Hejaz region by the founder late King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. Since that time until this current prosperous reign, the province of Al-Wajh experiences renaissance included various fields. The historical and archaeological monuments in Al-Wajh province include the old town and its doors, and Al-Manakhah Souq as well as a number of historical and archaeological castles including Al-Wajh Castle, often called the Castle of Souq with its remnants are still there up to now, where it was built in 1859 and the Castle of Al-Zareeb located in the Valley Al-Zareeb, 20 kilometers east of Al-Wajh province, and was built in 1617 on the road of Egyptian Hajj to be a fortress to protect convoys of pilgrims and store materials as a provision while returning from Makkah and the holy sites. There is also the lighthouse of Al-Wajh which was built in 1875 to guide ships coming to the seaport Al-Wajh which is called nowadays the Tower of Marine Navigation. This lighthouse formed a landmark in urban heritage of Al-Wajh province and perhaps the whole heritage of the Red Sea.
