GCC Foreign Ministers Stress Supporting Legislative Power in Yemen

Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States concluded here today an extraordinary meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council under chairmanship of Dr. Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah, Qatari Foreign Minister and Chairman of the GCC Current Session, in presence of GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani to discuss the latest developments in Yemen.
The GCC Ministerial Council issued the following statement:
"The GCC Ministerial Council, remembered the statement issued during the GCC extraordinary meeting in 21, January, 2015 regarding the Houthi coup in Yemen and a statement issued by the Security Council in 15, February, 2015, the GCC initiative and it executive mechanism, the outputs of the national dialogue and relevant resolutions of the Security Council, reiterated its condemnation and refusal of the Houthi coup and its attempts to impose a fait accompli by force.
Based on the keenness of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States on Yemen's security, stability and unity and standing with the brotherly people of Yemen and rejecting of unilateral side by the Houthi militias, the Ministerial Council confirms the following:
- Supporting the legitimate power and condemning continuation of detention of Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, Prime Minister Khalid Bahah, ministers and officials by the Houthi militias and releasing them immediately.
- Supporting the efforts of all Yemeni parties that seek with peaceful ways and without the use of violence and threats, for resumption of the political process according to the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism and outputs of the national dialogue, including the adoption of the Constitution and arrangements of the presidential and parliamentary elections, and build the army, security and state institutions on a national basis.
- Rejecting of the so-called "constitutional declaration" by the Houthi militias and its attempts to impose a fait accompli by force.
- Supporting the existing constitutional institutions in order to enable them carrying out the constitutional duties.
- Rejecting all actions taken to impose a fait accompli by force and try to change the components and nature of the Yemeni society, calling upon the Houthis to stop the use of force and withdraw from all the areas under their control and deliver the weapons were seized from the military and security institutions and engage in the political process.
- Calling upon the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to hold an urgently meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers to make a decision rejecting the coup.
