The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is known for his interest in cultural affairs in general and the history of the Saudi state in particular. In this context, he issued his approval as President of the Board of Directors of King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (KAFRA) to establish a research chair named after him, to be specialized in the study of the history of the city of Madinah at the Islamic University in Madinah. On March 29, 2011, King Salman inaugurated "King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for the Study of Madinah History Chair" at the Islamic University of Madinah The establishment of the chair came in recognition of the Islamic University in Madinah of the role being played by King Salman bin Abdulaziz in the history of the Saudi state.
