The Philippines is bracing for possible floods and landslides as Tropical Storm Rammasun intensified while moving closer to the eastern seaboard. Landfall is expected Tuesday morning in Catanduanes province, AP reported. State weather forecaster Rene Paciente said Rammasun was 570 kilometers east of Catanduanes' Virac township as of noon Monday, packing winds of 95 kilometers per hour (59 miles per hour) and gusts of up to 120 kph (75 mph). It entered Philippine territory on Sunday but was still over sea. Floods and landslides are expected in at least four regions, and classes were suspended Monday afternoon in some areas, including the capital Manila. Local officials urged sea vessels not to sail in areas on the path of the storm, readied relief goods and prepared for possible evacuation of residents.
