Hundreds of firefighters were battling a fast-moving wildfire near Los Angeles Thursday. According to dpa, the fire broke out at around 6 am (1400 GMT) just outside Glendora on the eastern edge of the sprawling city. Fueled by strong and hot Santa Ana winds that blew in from the deserts to the east, the fire had burned almost 700 hectares four hours later, and destroyed at least two homes, the Los Angeles Times reported. The report said that arson was suspected as the cause of the fire, and that three people were taken in for questioning. California experienced the driest year on record last year leaving vegetation throughout the state bone-dry.
