AlHijjah 26, 1434, Oct 31, 2013, SPA -- The number of people out of work in the eurozone edged up in September, reversing a recent downward trend, but the unemployment rate was stable at 12.2 per cent, according to data released. At the same time, the EU statistics agency, Eurostat, revised upwards last month's unemployment rate 0.2 points to 12.2 per cent. In September, 19.45 million people were unemployed in the currency area, 60,000 more than the month before, but the increase was not enough to push up the overall unemployment rate. Austria and Germany again posted the lowest jobless figures at about 5 per cent. Greece and Spain remained at the top of the range with unemployment rates above 26 per cent. The jobless statistics included 3.5 million people under the age of 25, making the rate for that age group 24.1 per cent, Eurostat said. In the wider 28-member European Union, the unemployment rate was stable at 11 per cent. A total of 26.87 million people were unemployed in the bloc in September, 61,000 more than the month before.
