AlQa'dah 8, 1434, Sep 14, 2013, SPA -- A new hearing date was set for October 19 as former Egyptian president Hosny Mubarak appeared Saturday in court for a retrial on alleged complicity in the killing of protesters, dpa reported. Mubarak, 85, looked alert as he wore eyeglasses and sat in a wheelchair at a makeshift courtroom on the outskirts of Cairo. Chief judge Mahmoud al-Rashidi ruled that three sessions, set for between October 19 and 21, could not be broadcast on television or covered in print media. He cited security reasons. In those closed-door hearings, the court is to cross-examine former prime minister Atef Ebeid; ex-chief of the intelligence service Murad Mewafi; and former interior minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin. Supporters of Mubarak and followers of his successor, ousted president Mohammed Morsi, engaged Saturday in fistfights outside the court building, with the trial offering a rare excuse for the two sides to come face to face. Mubarak is being retried on charges of failing to prevent the killing of more than 800 peaceful protesters in the uprising that forced him out of power in 2011. His interior minister, Habib al-Adly, and six former security chiefs also face the same charges. Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, face additional charges of squandering public funds. Mubarak has been staying at a Cairo military hospital serving house arrest since his release from prison in a corruption case last month. -- SPA 19:06 LOCAL TIME 16:06 GMT تغريد
