Police Saturday arrested the owners of two garment factories in an eight-storey building that collapsed this week in Bangladesh, killing at least 324 people and injuring about 2,000. The suspects are accused of forcing employees to work after severe cracks developed in the building one day before it collapsed in Savar, 25 kilometers north-west of the capital Dhaka, chief police detective Monirul Islam said. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association had urged the two to surrender after thousands of workers took to the streets to demand justice, association chief Atiqul Islam was cited as saying by DPA. Police were still searching for the building's owner, who is accused of using sub-standard construction materials, said Shamsul Haque Tuku, state minister for home affairs. Rescuers were working to retrieve bodies and find survivors in the debris Saturday. At least 324 bodies have been recovered and 2,408 survivors rescued since the collapse on Wednesday.
