U.S. stocks closed higher Tuesday, after fluctuating earlier in the day. The dollar rose against the euro, the pound, and the yen. Light sweet crude oil for June delivery lost 1 cent to $89.18 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures dropped $12.40 to $1,408.80 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 152.29, or 1.05 percent, to 14,719.46. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 16.28, or 1.04 percent, to 1,578.78. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index moved up 35.78, or 1.11 percent, to 3,269.33.
