U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at the State Department Tuesday, launching the U.S.-Liberian Partnership Dialogue to ensure cooperation between the two nations. "The ceremony included a signing of a Statement of Intent between the two countries that will serve as a platform for future bilateral engagement primarily in the areas of agriculture and food security; energy and power; and human development," the State Department said in a statement. "The United States and the Republic of Liberia share a longstanding relationship and mutual commitment to the advancement of democracy, stability and prosperity. Since the end of Liberia's civil war in 2003, significant steps have been taken by the two countries to strengthen democracy and to promote a business environment conducive to trade and investment," the State Department said.
