Prince Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of the Interior has affirmed that there is no money laundering on large scales in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He turned down some claim that there is money that gets out of the Kingdom for financing terrorism and said "We hope that this is not true." Prince Ahmed stressed that great efforts have been exerted and, Allah willing, they will achieve their goals. In a press statement after he patronized Saturday evening the opening ceremony of a seminar on money laundering and financing of terrorism, Prince Ahmed said that money laundering emerged mainly from funds that are not legal. He said that combating it is a duty and that security services are evolving and preceding the development of crime. He added that coordination among all departments is there to combat crime and joint efforts are continuing. He stated that the Ministry of Interior is proceeding according to the state system which is based on the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet (Peace be upon him). He said that the Ministry of Interior will not abandon its duty and the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution is an independent body that investigates and refers to the judiciary that uses Sharia. He also asserted that money laundering is not a phenomenon in the Kingdom and said, "What we have is (always) announced." He pointed out that his visit to Baha region comes at the personal invitation of its governor, adding that visiting the regions of the Kingdom is a duty when opportunity allows. --More
