Ghana on Sunday confirmed it had arrested a top aide to former Ivory Coast president Laurent Gbagbo, wanted in connection with the 2010 outbreak of post-election violence which killed thousands in the West African country, dpa reported. The former spokesman, Kone Katinan Justin, is wanted in his homeland for economic crimes. He was arrested on Friday in Accra after taking a flight from Johannesburg, and is being kept in custody in Ghana. "President John Dramani Mahama asked the attorney general and minister of justice to study the extradition instruments and advice accordingly," a statement said. Gbagbo is awaiting trial in The Hague, where he stands accused at the International Criminal Court for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity following the election, which international observers said he lost.
