JEDDAH: Riyadh is not the only region holding activities for the Janadriya Festival, as Jeddah has also been the scene of a wide variety of events held in conjunction with what is the Kingdom's largest celebration of heritage and culture. In recent days the National Guard, the organizing body of the Janadriya Festival, has held two symposiums in the Red Sea city – “Fundamentalisms of the West and Fear of Islam” and “The New Orientalism and Relations with Others” – as well as the “Kingdom of Humanitarianism and King of Peace” exhibition. The events have also been accompanied by a series of poetry evenings, art displays and folkloric performances held in collaboration with King Abdulaziz University and other bodies such as the Jeddah Literary Club. Khalid Al-Shuhaib, head of Media for the National Guard in the Western region, said the symposiums produced several recommendations. “They included using the media to change the negative perception of Islam in the West, and the establishment of an academic chair in the name of Islam at a Western university,” he said. Hassam Al-Anqari, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at King Abdulaziz University, said the university hopes to make the Kingdom of Humanitarianism exhibition a permanent feature at the university. “It contains numerous photographs and conveys important information regarding the humanitarian work of the Custodian of the Two Holy mosques and his part in promoting the culture of dialogue and bringing religions together, as well as his work in promoting peace across the world,” Al-Anqari said. The four-day exhibition, which was staged by the Faculty of Economics and the National Guard at Jeddah's Red Sea Mall and which closed on Friday, was seen by over 4,000 visitors.
