The second Scientific Conference for Students of Higher Education in Saudi Arabia is geared for a bigger and better event that will set this generation on the track to scientific advancementUnder the patronage of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the second Scientific Conference for Students of Higher Education – with the theme “Towards Knowledge Creativity and Leading Generation” – was inaugurated in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Khaled Bin Muhammad Al-Anqari, on March 28 at the Jeddah Hilton.
The minister commenced the conference with a tour of the exhibition that displayed more than a 1,000 art works, research projects, and scientific models from across the Kingdom.
More than 2,700 male and female students from around 31 national universities participated in this massive scientific convention.
Dr. Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Ouhali, the chairman of the organizing committee, said in his welcome address that the underlying objective of the three-day conference is to uplift the scientific skills and the student research contributions in the Kingdom.
Moreover, the conference also aims to raise the level of quality of the research conducted and the studies that are published as well as to spread awareness of the merits of development and progress, specifically of the scientific community.
Additionally, the event is designed to facilitate university students in participating and sharing their opinions and ideas pertaining to improving the environment of their universities, developing the education system to prioritize a greater dissemination of knowledge, embracing communication at an inter-university level to foster a sense of teamwork, developing personal, social, and administrative skills, and promoting a culture of volunteering, a sense of responsibility toward the country, and becoming better team-players.
Talking about the Student Scientific Quality Prize (SSQP), Al-Ouhali noted that the prize aims to establish a spirit of noble competition amongst Saudi universities, to ensure the best and highest-quality student participation, underscoring the point that the emphasis is always on the quality of participation as opposed to the quantity. Moreover, this prize aims to inculcate the culture of quality and professionalism in the student scientific research field in all Saudi universities.
Al-Anqari also announced that the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has allocated the generous sum of SR1.5 million for the male and female winners of the SSQP of this conference. “This sum of SR1,500,000 is divided to cover around 170 awards to be given for the winners of the different hubs of the submitted scientific researches and other works,” he added.
The head of the media committee, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Habib, elaborated on SSQP and said that it is awarded to the best universities in terms of the student scientific research (oral and posters) submitted in three axes of the conference, with a total number of three prizes as following: the health sciences axis, the basic and engineering sciences axis and the human and social sciences axis.
