Batsmen dominate in ALJ Cup

JEDDAH: Batsmen dominated as Deccan Knights beat Saliheen by 2 wickets, Young Athletes continued their victory march with a 63-runs win against in-form ACC, Reel & Rom beat a strong Desert Warriors by 6 wickets in the last over of the match in the 7th week matches of JCA Division-II which is sponsored by Abdul Lateef Jameel Company (ALJ) and organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association.
Sohail and Inayath shone for Deccan Knights against Saliheen Cricketers. Saliheen, batting first, made 183-8 against Deccan Knights. Imran Butt was the highest run-getter with 72. Amjad Siddiqui made 33, while Irfan Butt 17, Abdul Rauf 14 and Abid 12 also contributed. Medium pacer Inayathullah took 5-36. Hyder and Anwar Shah got 1-39 and 1-21 respectively. Deccan Knights reached 184-8 in the second last ball of the match with a winning boundary by Mubashir who made 27. Make-shift opener Sohail cracked a match-winning 74 off 42 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes. Mohammad Umar Suwadi contributed 37, Feroz 16 and Mubashir 27. Amer and Irfan claimed 3 wickets each.
Abdul Wahid hit yet another winning knock for Young Athletes against ACC. Young Athletes, batting first, made 236-8. Skipper Shaad Mohammad Khan and Abdul Wahid put up 138 runs for first wicket. Abdul Wahid made 81 and Shaad Mohammad Khan 57. Others who contributed runs were Sami 20, Khalil 14, Abdullah 7 and Iftekhar 7. Ayub took 3 wickets, Hassan 2, Nazeer and Sohail one each. In reply ACC folded for 174 through Jaya 46, Abid 28, Sohail 24, Asif 14,Hussain 11, Tabrez 10. Zakir and Samigot 2 wickets while Safdar, Iftekhar, Samiullah and Abdul Rahim claimed one each.
Reel & Rom beat Desert Warriors in a thriller. Desert Warriors, batting first, made 161-6. Raziuddin who made 40 runs was the highest run-getter. Wasi made 27, Quddus 19, Kumar 18, Mirza 15 not out and Razi 9. Imran Khan and Franky David claimed 2 wickets each while Munir and Wajid got one each. In reply, the Reel & Rom, which had only 16 overs, as it got two overs reduced for late arrival, reached 164-4 in the second last ball of the 16th over and won the match. Opener Wajid remained unbeaten on 43 with No. 6 batsman Munir Ahmed (12 not out). Others who contributed were, Zubair 33, Nizar 40 and Imran Khan 20. Waseemullah took 2 wickets and Kumar one.
