Hadlaq, Deputy Minister of Social Affairs for Social Development, has said that the recent Royal Orders to increase state support to charities by 50 percent will be brought into effect within the next two weeks. Al-Hadlaq reiterated that monitoring of charities' financial activities was “conducted through rigorous measures” by the Social Development Agency. “The agency appoints boards through the charities that act as higher authorities for the work of the charities,” he said. “Regional Emirates act as supervisory bodies to monitor charity work and are monitored by regional Emirs who are regarded by the ministry as the principal backers for their work and programs to ensure they carry out their roles as required and in accordance with the plans drawn up for them.” He said that accountants and legal experts are also tasked by the ministry with monitoring expenditure and revenues and produce quarterly reports, which expose any untoward activities. “There is continual coordination between the Emirates and the ministry should any financial or administrative excesses be uncovered at charities, and culprits are punished in accordance with the law and regulations,” he said.
