AAIS high school champion team with parents and teachers.DAMMAM: Al-Andalus International School (AAIS) clinched the major awards in the Second Beta Sigma Fraternity Annual All-Filipino Inter-School Chess Tournament concluded here recently. The tournament, which lasted three weekends, was participated by elementary and high school students from AAIS, International Philippine School in Al-Khobar (IPSA), and Al-Jazerra International School (AJIS). AAIS High School Team A won the overall championship in the high school division and Team B from the same school settled as second runner-up in the same division. Coached by Glendforth Villanueva, the AAIS High School champion team was composed of Raja Shadiq dela Rosa, Charles Quizon, Jhon Rhonel Faculin, and Gillian Quizon. Raja Shadiq dela Rosa, a brilliant player, was also declared the grand champion in the individual competition and given SR3,500 cash award by the Beta Sigma Fraternity. Other members of the AAIS High School Team B which took the second runner-up slot were Jerry Tabalong Jr., Camille Erika Samson, Kristian Lawrence Caringal, and Karl Daniel Vencer. IPSA High School Team B, made up of players Jerry Tabalong Jr., Camille Erika Samson, Kristian Lawrence Caringal, and Karl Daniel Vencer, secured the first runner-up place. In the elementary team division, the team of IPSA, composed of Michael Angelo Mesina, Francis Cipriano, Christian Aiphie Bitanga, and Mohammad Nader Abdulrassad, won the championship. AAIS Team A and B wrapped up the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. The AAIS elementary division players were Andrian Villanueva, Timothy Dar, Paul Adriane Torneros, and Carlo Ashley de Guzman from Team A; and Frenz Villasis, Ashley Ortega, John Philip Marique, and Keifer Sheen Ortega from Team B. Al-Jazerra International School won only one event. Abe Ceasar Perez of AJIS elementary division won the championship in individual competition in the elementary division. The rest of the runner-up positions in both high school elementary divisions in the individual competition were taken by Jerry Tabalong Jr. and Michael Angelo Mesina respectively from IPSA. The awarding ceremony, held the at IJIS auditorium in Dammam, was attended by parents, teachers, and members the Filipino community in Eastern Province. Present to congratulate the AAIS winners were Swanie Dela Rosa, mother of Raja Shadiq dela Rosa, the grand champion in the individual event and recipient of the case award, AAIS teachers Cherry Amor Recato, Norma Hilab, Charlotte De Ramos, and AAIS coach Glendfort Villanueva. Beta Sigma Fraternity president Rey Liclican and tournament director Ramon Aguilar presented the awards to the winning students.
