e-Elahi Chowdhury Bir Bikram, Adviser to Bangladesh Prime Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs, has called on members of the Bangladeshi community to work for improving the country's image in the Kingdom.
Dr. Bikram was the chief guest at “Language Martyrs and International Mother Language Day” organized at Bangladesh Embassy here, Monday.
Dr. Bir Bikram is currently visiting the Kingdom to attend the International Engery Forum (IEF) meeting.
A large number of Bangladeshi workers from Riyadh, its suburbs and teachers and students of Bangladesh International Schools, Riyadh attended the ceremony.
“I appeal to the Bangladeshi nationals living in the Kingdom to stay together and work hard to brighten the image of Bangladesh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Dr. Bikram said. Ambassador Mohammad Shahidul Islam echoed similar remarks urging the Bangladeshi expatriates to stay united and work for improving the image of Bangladesh in Saudi Arabia.
Underscoring the significance of ‘Language Martyrs and International Mother Language Day' the envoy called upon Bangladeshis, especially those expatriates that are living in the Kingdom with members of family to teach their children Bangla language as they teach other languages.
“There is a need for renewing commitment and reinforcing concerted efforts to contribute to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh,” he said.
Other speakers on the occasion paid sincere tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the mother tongue. They also paid homage to the Bangladesh freedom fighters.
The day's program included ceremonial hoisting of the national flag by the ambassador. The envoy also read out messages of Bangladesh President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. The students presented cultural program and participated in art and essay competition.
Dr. Bikram later distributed prizes to the winners.
