Sedin brace in Canucks win
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 21 - 02 - 2011

VANCOUVER: Daniel Sedin scored twice and added an assist to take over the NHL scoring lead and lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 5-2 win over the slumping Dallas Stars in the NHL Saturday.
Sedin, a winger from Sweden, opened the scoring on a sharp-angle shot 2:46 into the game, and added his 32nd goal of the season 7:39 into the third period to give the Canucks a 3-1 lead.
Dallas captain Brenden Morrow cut into the lead with 6:27 left, but Sedin set up his twin brother, Henrik, on a three-on-one just over 2 minutes later.
That gave Daniel Sedin 77 points, two more that Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos for the NHL lead.
Raycroft made 33 saves for the Stars, who have only one win in nine games.
Devils 4, Islanders 1: In Raleigh, North Carolina, Dainius Zubrus scored goals in the first and third periods as the surging New Jersey Devils got their season-best seventh straight victory.
The Devils, who are fighting to get into the playoffs after a miserable start, are 10 points behind the eighth-place Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference race.
Henrik Tallinder and Brian Rolston also had goals for the Devils, who beat Carolina for the third time in 12 days. Patrick Dwyer scored for Carolina in the third period to deny Johan Hedberg a chance at consecutive shutouts on back-to-back nights.
Islanders 3, Kings 0: In Uniondale, New York, Al Montoya made 35 saves in his first NHL start in nearly two years as the New York Islanders shut out Los Angeles.
Matt Moulson scored twice against his brother-in-law – Los Angeles goalie Jonathan Quick – and Frans Nielsen added a goal for New York, which has won six of 10 games this month.
Montoya got his second career shutout in his first start in the NHL since April 9, 2009, while with Phoenix.
Los Angeles lost in regulation for the first time in nine games (5-1-3).
Coyotes 3, Predators 2: At Nashville, Tennessee, Keith Yandle and Taylor Pyatt scored 58 seconds apart in the second period to lead Phoenix over Nashville.
Lauri Korpikoski also scored for Phoenix, which won its seventh straight game, equaling a season high.
Sergei Kostitsyn and Shea Weber had goals for Nashville, which had won three of its last four games.
Panthers 3, Lightning 2, SO: In Tampa, Florida, Mike Santorelli scored the tying goal with 3 minutes left in the third period and added the lone shootout goal to lead Florida past Tampa Bay.
David Booth also scored for Florida, and backup Scott Clemmensen stopped 34 shots in regulation and all three he faced in the shootout.
Marc-Andre Bergeron and Sean Bergenheim scored for the Lightning, who have lost three in a row and are 5-4-1 during a 12-game stretch at home.
Blues 9, Ducks 3: In St. Louis, Chris Stewart scored two goals in his debut game with the Blues as St. Louis routed Anaheim.
St. Louis, energized by a pair of high-profile trades this past week, just missed a franchise record with two goals in a 7-second span of the first period. The record is two goals in 6 seconds.
Oilers 5, Thrashers 3: In Edmonton, Alberta, Taylor Hall scored three power-play goals in the third period for his first NHL hat trick as Edmonton rallied to beat Atlanta.
Senators 1, Maple Leafs 0, SO: In Toronto, Craig Anderson stopped 47 shots and was perfect in the shootout as Ottawa outlasted Toronto.
Sharks 4, Avalanche 0: In San Jose, California, Devin Setoguchi recorded his first career hat trick as San Jose handed Colorado its 10th straight loss.
