MADINA: The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) used helicopters, four-wheel-drive SUVs and walked on foot to determine the route taken by the Prophet (peace be upon him) when he migrated from Makkah to Madina, as described in the Seera (way of life of the Prophet) written by Ibn Hisham, Dr. Zuhair Bin Abdul Hafiz Nawab, president of the SGS, said Wednesday. He said the work to determine the route of the Prophet's Hijra to Madina 1,432 years ago is the most accurate study of its kind. Nawab said that researchers worked with aerial maps that used Global Positioning System technology to locate the route of the Hijra of the Prophet (pbuh) and his companion Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). The researchers took 11 days to determine the exact migration route from the departure point in Makkah to Quba in Madina. Dr. Nawab also showed a documentary film on determining the route of the Hijra, which was produced by Taiba University in cooperation with the Saudi Geological Survey. Dr. Khalid Abul Khair, a member of the teaching staff in Taiba University and head of the film production team, said they used the latest technology to produce the documentary, which took two years.
