DAMMAM: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has said that some 2,190 mosque imams and Friday “khateeb” sermonizers are “unaware of the concept of intellectual security”, despite the success of the ministry's programs with 97 percent of its imams and khateebs. Saleh Aaal Al-Sheikh, Minister of Islamic Affairs, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the development plan that contains programs to raise the level of awareness of the concept of intellectual security has been “highly successful in confronting deviant ideology”. “Three percent out of 73,000 imams and khateebs are unaware,” Aal Al-Sheikh said. “The vast majority have interacted with the aims of the concept and understood it clearly.” He said that the intellectual security program began eight months ago and has achieved a “considerable presence and extensive understanding of it contents”. “The development program will focus next year on the quality of khateebs' performance in terms of ideology and strengthening moderation,” he said. “It will promote a sense of belonging and citizenship through a new attitude towards the concept of intellectual security.”
