JEDDAH: Toyota Karting Championship will begin with its third round of the season Wednesday at Al-Corniche, near Al-Nawras Roundabout. The qualifying races and heats will be followed by main races for two days. Toyota is the main sponsor of the championship along with Mobile 1 and Arab Motors channel. The concept of the championship, which has been formatted to take Saudi motor sports to greater heights, has over the years seen several young racers at the forefront in the international level of kart racing. As usual, several drivers will be in the fray for the prestigious event in the country's karting. Amongst them are Abdullah Al-Mutari, Sultan Kailo and Hassan Sharbatly. Toyota Karting Championship has evolved over the years and has become much stronger and at par with international kart racing. All competing drivers have run programs to get a chance to win this prestigious event. Many promising and aspiring young racers will be seen in action. The format of the racing is two qualifying sessions followed by two heats, one pre-final and the final. The heats will be run over 15 laps and the pre-final and finals will be run over 20 laps. “All the final touches have been given to the venue for the Toyota karting race championship 2010 in Saudi Arabia,” ace rally driver Abdullah Bakhashab said. “This race will make us going ahead toward attracting and spotting talent among youth for future participants of F1 competitions,” added Bakhashab. The karting race is almost similar to what happens in F1 races. There will be 16 drivers where qualifying rounds will start before the event at 8:30 P.M. on the opening day to determine the places of every driver. The race will then start an hour later, at 9:30 P.M. The race will be conducted on the basis of CIK-FIA rules. All participants would have to hold a license being issued by SATA locally on behalf of CIK. Also, all drivers will take part with their own cars. __
