RIYADH: The Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry has notified its members of new regulations for restaurants at shopping centers obliging them to provide separate dining areas for families and single males. The regulations, which must be complied with within three months, state that family sections must be obscured from view from the outside of the restaurant and also provided with suitable seating arrangements and movable screens. They are also required to be entirely separate from male sections. The new measures further require covered entrances, independent restrooms and compliance with health and safety regulations, including approval from the Civil Defense for safety procedures and facilities such as fire exits and security guards. Dim lighting has also been banned. The rules, which will be enforced by the Riyadh Municipality, were drawn up by a commission composed of representatives from the municipality, the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
