MAKKAH: The Muslim media should promote Islam as a moderate force capable of solving the problems of humankind, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah, said here Thursday. Prince Khaled was speaking at the inauguration of a media conference here entitled “Media Challenges in the Age of Globalization.” The Makkah Emir opened the conference on behalf of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The conference, organized by the Muslim World League, ends in Mina Saturday. Prince Khaled opened the ceremony saying the media in the Muslim World should face up to the challenges confronting the Ummah. The Muslim media represents a fort protecting the Ummah from intellectual chaos, he said. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Prince Khaled said, warned against extremism. Islam can solve the problems of humankind and consolidate the values of justice and peace, he said. The Emir said the Kingdom supports all efforts to defend the Ummah with its humanitarian assistance around the world. The Emir delivered the King's greetings to all those participating at the conference. He said such gatherings of Muslims were important to assist in finding solutions to problems. Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Aal Al-Sheikh, Grand Mufti and Chairman of the Board of Senior Ulema, called on the Muslim Ummah to defend itself by delivering Allah's message to the whole world. He said the media was a powerful tool. “The Muslim world must face this with a strong Muslim media,” he said.
