What was supposed to be a tranquil moment of worship and reflection suddenly turned into turmoil. A 23-year-old man flared up during the Friday sermon at a local mosque in Jamea'ah district and beat the Imam while delivering the sermon in front of worshippers. Stunned by the aggressive behavior, worshippers jumped to help the Imam after he had already sustained head injuries and severe bruising. The man was held and the Imam was taken to hospital. The police arrested the man, who was then transferred to the Authority of General Investigation and Prosecution. The Imam was found with fractions in his head. He would be hospitalized until the end of the week for complete recovery, a medical report said. It was not known yet why the man jumped on the Imam during the sermon.
