JEDDAH: It's all set for the final round of the Toyota Championship Autocross final round here at Corniche on Nov. 3 and 4. After the success of the 1st round in Abha and the second round in Iskan Park in Al-Khobar, the organizers announced that the final round will be held near Al-Nawras Round-about on Al-Corniche. Giving details of the event, the organizer Abdullah Bakhashab said that the the championship would feature a strong mix of amateur and experienced contenders. “Our aim is to help Saudi youth attest their driving talents and skills in the right places and specialized areas away from endangering people and their own lives by racing cars in the city streets and high ways” Bakhashab said. The event will be held under the supervision of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare in Jeddah. Hundreds of spectators are expected to see the drivers competing in two laps in their own cars Wednesday night. On Thursday, they will take part in two more laps, again in their own vehicles before competing in the final two laps driving Toyota Camry for the honor of being selected as the Kingdom autocross champion. The event is mainly sponsored by Toyota. The co-sponsors are Mobil 1 and Arab motor Channel. About 33 amateur drivers will take part in the event. The main aim behind organizing such an event is to assess and develop driving talent and skills. The track designed by a group of special engineers is all the more challenging with a slew of curves and hairpin turns. The length of the circuit exceeds 1300 meters and it was punctuated with turnings and obstacles. Special digital timing system will be used. The drivers, with their cars will be categorized into 7 classes depending on the capacity and the power of engine, car size and year of manufacture. The classes will be: 1. Super Stock (SS) for ultra high performance sport cars, 2. A Stock (AS) for high performance sport cars, 3. PA - sport cars and GT's, 4. C Stock (CS) for small size compact cars, 5. D Stock (DS) for intermediate size sedans, 6. F Stock (FS) for sedans and coupes, 7. (BS) for medium size coupes. The top three drivers will win cash awards of SR10,000, SR6,000 and SR3,000, respectively. __
