Ponting, Watson back for ODIs
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 27 - 10 - 2010

MELBOURNE: Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson have been recalled to Australia's limited-overs setup for three One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka next month ahead of the Ashes Test series against England.
Ponting and Watson were rested from the Australia squad for the recent rain-reduced ODI series in India, where Michael Clarke deputized as captain for Ponting in the 1-0 defeat.
Selectors announced the 15-man ODI squad Tuesday, a day after unveiling a 12-man team for Australia's first international match of the 2010-11 season: A Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka in Perth Sunday.
Brad Haddin, who missed the tour to India, has recovered from injury and will return as wicketkeeper at the expense of Tim Paine for both the T20 and three ODIs on Nov. 3, 5 and 7 in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Three-time defending champion Australia is using the Sri Lanka series as part of preparations for the 2011 World Cup, which is being jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. “The selection of this squad marks the start of a very important summer of one-day cricket for the Australian side,” selection chairman Andrew Hilditch said.
Xavier Doherty, a 27-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner from Tasmania, has been added to the squad and is likely to play the opening match against Sri Lanka, with Nathan Hauritz needed for a domestic match on that date.
Hilditch said Doherty was among the form spinners in domestic limited-overs cricket and was in consideration for a spot at the World Cup.
Squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Michael Clarke, Xavier Doherty, Brad Haddin, John Hastings, Nathan Hauritz, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Marsh, Clint McKay, Peter Siddle, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Shane Watson, Cameron White.
