DAMMAM: The National Committee for Recruitment has asked the Philippines Labor Office to set a date for a meeting on the conditions set by Manila for Saudi nationals on hiring of Filipino domestic helpers. Hussein Bin Abdullah Al-Muttairi, member of the Recruitment Committee in the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the National Committee has written to Philippines authorities to discuss the conditions for employment of Filipino domestic helpers. He said the letter was sent to the Philippine authorities during the month of Ramadan. Manila, he said, has stiffened the conditions on the recruitment of domestic helpers from the Philippines like setting the salary of the workers to at least SR1,500 a month. The Philippines has also required that the employer must be a Saudi citizen whose salary is at least SR9,000 a month and should attach a detailed map of the employer's residence. The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh will not approve any request for hiring a Filipino domestic helper if the requirements are not met. He said the National Committee has not received a reply yet for its request to hold an urgent meeting. “Setting the venue for the meeting is still under discussion,” he said, adding that the committee members are ready to travel to the Philippines to discuss the issue. “The way Saudi nationals were received during the past days (were) inappropriate. This matter has forced it (committee) to write to the authorities concerned in order to take the suitable measures either through rectifying the situation or to take a decision to stop recruitment once for all from the Philippines,” Al-Muttairi said. He said the domestic workers who are interested to work in the Kingdom are “available in large numbers” and could be available in two to three months.
