Three Chadians were arrested here Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting an Arab girl in front of her blind mother, the police said.
Two accomplices were also arrested after the crime was committed in Kilo 6 area of the city.
Four men, including the one who watched the street while the others carried out the crime, were led by a gangster in the prime of his youth, police said.
The suspects broke into the house to steal, but they changed their mind at the last minute and started assaulting the girl amid her mother?s pleas, according to police who said the girl resisted the men but was overpowered.
A Criminal Investigations Department team found the suspects after the victim reported the crime and provided precise description of her attackers, authorities said.
The fourth suspect, who watched the incident from an eyehole in the main door, was rewarded with a hashish cigarette and he fled while the victim called the police, according to authorities.
The girl told investigators that the gang leader was a short, thin man who directed his accomplices- actions and that one suspect covered his face with a piece of cloth. Investigators used the provided information to draw sketches of the three suspects and track them down, police said.
The victim identified the kingpin, who initially denied his involvement and later admitted his crime and led police to his accomplices, according to authorities.
The men also confessed that they committed a series of thefts and sexually assaulted a Chadian girl, who they threatened with death if she reported them, police said.
Investigators said they are looking for the Chadian girl to take her testimony.
Col. Misfer Al-Ju'aid, spokesman of Jeddah Police, said the suspects' confessions were officially attested in the Shariah Court.
