Woods qualifies for next FedExCup
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 30 - 08 - 2010

Tiger Woods finished strongly at the Barclays Tournament Sunday, a four-under 67 clinching a spot in the second FedExCup series event next week.
The world NO. 1, yet to win this season, had to be in the top 50 to remain in the lucrative playoffs and qualified with ease as he closed with a seven-under 277 total.
“I'm very pleased,” said Woods who felt his ball-striking was good all week.
“If I had just putted well for all four days, I'm right there. I drove it pretty much on a string all week and really controlled my irons,” he told reporters.
Briton Martin Laird fired a six-under 65 to surge into a three-shot lead after Saturday's third round.
Overnight leader Jason Day (70) of Australia was in joint second place with long-hitting American Dustin Johnson (64), one stroke better than Australian Adam Scott (68) on 205.
Edoardo Molinari wins
Edoardo Molinari birdied the final three holes at Gleneagles Sunday to win the Johnnie Walker Championship and secure a place in Europe's Ryder Cup team.
The 29-year-old Italian received a wild card pick from European captain Colin Montgomerie later in the day.
Molinari shot a 1-under 71 to reach 10-under 278 and beat Brett Rumford by one shot. The Australian had earlier shot a 3-under 69 and held a two shot lead when Molinari stood on the 16th tee.
Overnight leader Francesco Molinari – Eduardo's brother – shot 75 to share third place with Wales' Jamie Donaldson and Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain. Jimenez secured automatic qualification for the Ryder Cup, as did Peter Hanson of Sweden who was tied for 19th.
Wie, Shin share lead
South Korean Jiyai Shin fired a three-under par 69 Saturday to join American Michelle Wie atop the leaderboard after three rounds of the Canadian Women's Open.
Shin erased a three-shot deficit and joined Wie on 10-under 206, four shots in front of Na Yeon Choi, Jee Young Lee and defending champion Suzann Pettersen of Norway.
Wie carded an even par 72 on a rainy day at the St. Charles Country Club.
South Korea's Choi drained a 60-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to complete a 71 for 210. Lee carded a 71 and Pettersen a 72.
