Six Filipino seafarers were rescued along with 39 crew of a Korean-flagged fishing vessel that sank near New Zealand Wednesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Saturday. Their fishing vessel Oyang 70 sank off the shore of New Zealand's South Island. Three died and three others were missing, the Philippine embassy in New Zealand said. Aside from the Filipinos, the 39 other rescued seafarers were Koreans, Indonesians and Chinese. They were taken to Lyttelton in South Island Friday. The Rescue Coordination Center of New Zealand (RCCNZ) has assured that none of them were Filipinos The Philippine embassy in New Zealand identified the rescued Filipinos as Jessie Perez, Allan Ilao, Edwin Gonzales, Arnel Amodo, Rolan Rola and one identified only by his last name Gampayon.
