Samir Group, American Garden, Saudi Hi-Tech FBA champions

29th FBA basketball tournament ended with a big success after three months of grueling and exciting games at the jam- packed Saudi Hi-Tech compound here in Jeddah. Samir Group (Inter-Commercial Strong Division), American Garden (Bona fide Group A) and Saudi Hi-Tech (Bona fide Group B) emerged champions in their respective groups.
Representatives of exlusive sponsor Jollibee headed by Billy Junn Tabares with FBA commissioner Abel Chavenia led the distribution of awards to the following:
Inter-Commercial Strong Division: Champion – Samir Group; 1st runner-up – Jollibee; 2nd runner-up – New Breed Al-Shaya; 3rd runner-up – Solid North.
Bona fide Group A: Champion – American Garden; 1st runner-up – Sharbatly Corp.; 2nd runner-up – CCMC); 3rd runner-up – Jeddah Fox).
Bona fide Group B: Champion – Saudi Hi-Tech; 1st runner-up – Rosewood Corniche Hotel; 2nd runner-up – CCMC); 3rd runner-up – Sarco-Jeddah).
Sharing the spotlight for the awards night were outstanding players, the mythical five awardees, MVP, best coach and best team manager from each of the four divisions. Leading the list was Rusty Magpoc (MVP of the Inter-Commercial Strong Division), followed by Gary Santos as best coach and George Feliciano as best team manager. Adjudged as mythical five were Rusty Magpoc, Jeffrey Galzote, Raffy David, Ariel Osorio and Jay Liam who was also adjudged as best player of the final game.
Bona fide Group A MVP was Jeffrey Disquitado, Gil Cortez as best coach and Robert “Bob” Bato as best team manager.
Mythical five were Richard Disquitado, Robert dela Cruz, Ely Carredo, Macciag Bartek and Jeffrey Disquitado who was also adjudged best player of the game.
In the Bona fide Group B, Saudi Hi-tech spitfire Janno Marvilla emerged as MVP, Jojo Ruaya as best coach, Rudy Ruaya as best manager. Mythical five were Darwin Dula, Jeffrey Reyes, Janno Marvilla, John Defensor and Gerald de Leon.
Special awards were also given to Reyman Dollentas (Most Disciplined Player), Jeffrey Capugan (Individual Sportsmanship Award), Lawrence Mendoza (Most Popular Player), Jeffrey Reyes (Indiv. Highest Scorer), Fikra Printing Press and Zahid-Volvo (Sportsmanship Award).
Certificate of Appreciation was also awarded to Chris Contreras, Jun Casolita, Arnold Atienza, Gilbert Borquin, Arnel Britanico, Jonathan Santos and PESOS Group for outstanding support to FBA.
FBA President Edgar Mendoza expressed thanks for the exclusive sponsorship of Jollibee under Nesma Holding Company Ltd. through the efforts of Mazen Zaki Munshi (marketing manager), Faisal Y. Bamhrez (division manager) and Billy Junn Tabares (marketing officer). Mendoza also praised all participating teams and all FBA aficionados who are continuously supporting their league.
