Award-winning car debuts in Kingdom
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 09 - 06 - 2010

To meet the aspirations of young people and following the success of the concept “Zoom Zoom”, Mazda Motor Corporation and Haji Husein Alireza & Co. Ltd. launched on Tuesday for the first time in Saudi Arabia the new generation of Mazda 2.
The all-new car is equipped with the latest Mazda technologies presented for the first time to the Saudi market.
In view of the high standards and features of the all-new Mazda 2, the car received more than 50 international awards including “Car of The World” award in 2008, and various awards in recognition of its dynamic performance, safety measures and stunning design.
Haji Husein Alireza & Co - the sole dealers of Mazda cars in Saudi Arabia - held a special reception at Park Hyatt Hotel Jeddah for the occasion.
Sheikh Amin Abualhassan, chairman of Haji Husein Alireza & Co., Ltd., Sheikh Amin Abualhassan, welcomed the attendees and thanked them for their continued support and cooperation.
Sheikh Ali Alireza, managing director of Haji Husein Alireza & Co., said the Saudi market is characterized by being stylish and energetic, as young people ratio is steadily increasing in recent years.
“Over the last few years we missed compact practical and dynamic model that meet the ambitions and obsession of wide sector of our clients, hence, we started working, in collaboration with our partners in Mazda Motor, to offer a vehicle that carries Mazda's brand and genes, a car that can fill the wide gap of compact and strong car. Our efforts culminated in the launch of the totally-new Mazda 2 generation.”
Yuji Nakamine, managing executive officer of Mazda Overseas Sales, reaffirmed the importance of the Saudi market to Mazda Motor Corporation and stressed on the importance of launching the car.
“We count a lot on our strategic partner in Saudi Arabia for expanding in this important market, especially after the successful launch of our models based on our Zoom Zoom concept.” He added: “The totally news Mazda 2, which is launched for the first time in the Saudi market, represents a new strategic dimension aims to attract young people who deserve to drive this stylish and dynamic car to meet their ambitions.”
The design team combined the visual movements created by the car's silhouette, the lines of the body, and the patterns of light on the body to create dynamic, multifaceted expressions not typically seen on a B-car. A sporty wedge shape that conveys a strong sense of forward motion, a deeply sculpted form in which the body is drawn inward fore and aft of the A-pillars, and distinctive character lines that extend from the front fender arches to the body shoulders are key features of the design. While providing ample interior space, the deeply sculpted body reflects an uncompromising effort to eliminate superfluous structural elements.
However, a compact body with so many strongly contoured surfaces and differently oriented character lines can easily result in a design that lacks consistency.
To avoid this problem, the designers gave a subtle transition to each point where one surface or character line meets another, resulting in a beautifully coherent and consistent design.
Every contour on the Mazda 2 has a look that changes greatly depending on the way light falls on it. The techniques for employing subtle changes in light brought about by each element of the body were informed by a uniquely Japanese aesthetic.
The all-new Mazda 2 has a retail tag ranging from SR47,00 to SR60,000.
