Dr. Eman Kamil is currently working as assistant professor at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, and has invented a disposable toothbrush using microbiology to combat bacterial infections. Her invention was unveiled at the recent Ibtikar 2010 exhibition. “My invention is both for healthy people and for those suffering from diabetes, hepatitis, cancer and other serious illnesses and complications,” she explained. “Just after a day's use, the toothbrush is contaminated with bacteria and fungi, so when you use the same brush over and over again, you introduce that contamination and pathogenic organisms to your stomach via your mouth. This compromises your immune system, which is not good for people at a higher risk of infections.” She added that her invention was a high-quality toothbrush that was available at an affordable price and comes with five disposable heads. “I hope to get people on all types of budgets to use this toothbrush and stay healthy,” she stated. Dr. Kamil has completed her PhD from King Saud University in microbiology, and said that she discovered the issue of contamination in toothbrushes from her diabetic mother's case and strived to invent a solution for the problem. “I would love to have a research center in Saudi Arabia because people here have both the knowledge and the intellect for research and if we have our own research lab, people can work more easily and more inventions can come out of the country,” she said. The toothbrush is actually Dr. Kamil's second invention. Her first was a medicine to combat multi-resistant bacteria for infection
