JCA sweeps MCA in inter-city ties

Jeddah Cricket Association (JCA) won both the inter-city matches against Madina Cricket Association (MCA) at Agole grounds near Medina Airport last week.
JCA-XI beat MCA-XI by 39 runs and JCA President-XI beat MCA President-XI by 5 wickets. The highlights of the matches were Syed Kaleem's hard hitting 80 runs for JCA-XI which won him the Man of the Match award and Umar Swadi's 64 runs and 3 for 31 for JCA President-XI. He also was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
JCA-XI vs. MCA-XI. JCA-XI skipper Humayun Farooq elected to bat first. Openers Kaleem and Syed Mohammad Afroz struggled to tackle fast bowlers Akram and Hussain. After Afroz left for 7, JCA vice captain Mohammad Riyaz came as No.3 and played sensibly until he was run out for 22. Skipper Farooq was trapped lbw by spinner Hafeez for just 2. However, Kaleem first put up 65 runs with Mohammad Riyaz and then 89 runs with Akram. He made a match-winning 80 from 66 deliveries. Athar Abdul Quddus made a quick 14. Akram made 43, Rana Shahzad 45 and Atta-Ur Rehman 32 not out to lift the team to 275-7 in the allotted 35 overs. Hafiz claimed 2-48, Iftekhar 2-34 and Hussain 1-30 for MCA.
MCA started well with dashing opener Rashid making 66 in 45 balls with 10 boundaries and a six. Sohail was run out for 12. The other contributors were Hussain 27, Ikram 24, Azhar 23, Kashif 23, Zohaib 11 and Younus 10. Mohammad Afroz took 2-10, left-arm spinner Faheem Pasha 2-46 and Mohammad Akram Ullah and Rana Shahzad one wicket each.
JCA President-XI vs. MCA President-XI. Opting to bat first, MCA President-XI was all out for 219 in 32 overs. MCA batsmen were under pressure from JCA fast bowlers as captain Majid Bhatti took the both openers. However Ilyas Madani topscored with 54. The other contributors were Amer Senior 43, Saleem 37, Amer junior 18 and Afzal 9. Majid Bhatti claimed 3-35, Umar Swadi 3-31 and Ashfaque 3-37.
JCA President-XI reached 222-5 in 23.1 overs. Umar Swadi made 64 off 34 balls with 13 fours. His opening partner Jaweed Ahmed made 33, Hashim Khan 43, Uzair Khan 42, Majid Bhatti 18 not out and Syed Ashraf Shah 9 not out. Amer Senior claimed 2-49, Khurram 1-38 and Arshad 1-30.
The chief guest of the prize-distribution ceremony was Dr. Faiz Al-Abideen, Chairman of JCA. Other guests who graced the ceremony were Adil Shorbiji of Saudi Oger Company, Dr. Insuram, Syed Ahmed, Jawad Ahmed, Ray Mushtaq, Zubair Ahmed and Omar. The sponsors of these matches were B-Cola, Tabbaq Restaurant, Medina Marhaba Restaurant, Taiba Restaurant, Mataam Adbaaq Al-Seeni, Choudhary Mohammad Anwar, Eng. Masood, Eng. Irshad, Syed Mashhadi and Dr. Mujahid.
JCA President Mohammad Iqbal thanked MCA President Syed Zahid Ali for organizing the matches. Syed Zahid Ali had thanked the sponsors, media, contributors, volunteers and JCA for making this event success. __
