Created on May 25, 1981, the GCC is a political and economic union involving the six Arab states: Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman, with many economic and social objectives. Though Oman and the UAE opted out of the monetary union, in 2007 and 2009 respectively, they are still members in the GCC. __
