The Administrative Court sentenced on Monday four persons to one year in prison each and fines of SR5,000 for “forgery and misuse and abuse of public funds”. Three of the convicted were “senior employees” at Najran Health Affairs while the fourth was a private businessman. They were also ordered to return funds appropriated from the state treasury. The sentence followed a series of hearings in which the four were accused of forging official papers for renovation works at a hospital in Najran nine years ago, and the prosecution presented as evidence statements falsely stating the number of bathrooms on which works had been conducted. They were also accused of spending excessive amounts of public money on the works. The convicted four are expected to appeal the ruling.
