Emirates Energy Award Draws industry InterestDUBAI – The 10th edition of Water Energy Technology Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2008) which was recently held at Dubai International Exhibition Center has attracted an international gathering of water, energy and environment specialists, companies and individuals.
Organized by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) on March 11-13, the participants displayed the latest solutions and technologies that address global water and energy crises, discussed ways to maximize the use of the environment friendly energy and presented the global fears of the lack of water and energy resources and the challenges to access and sustain these resources. The participants discussed ways to address various environment challenges and agreed on a number of recommendations and suggestions.
Emirates Energy Award has been among the most prominent participants at the WETEX 2008.
Dr. Abdallah Al-Amiri, president of the Emirates Energy Award, said: “The world should be aware of the importance of the surrounding resources, and this awareness should be translated into action to avoid the various crises associated with lack of energy resources and the violation of environment laws. Emirates Energy Award recognizes and honors the outstanding efforts that support the approach to save energy resource.”
“This is apparent in the UAE's approaches and policies. The country has issued a number of decrees and hosted the events related to environment protection to achieve the sought after balance, settle the disputes and call for peaceful coexistence among human beings and sharing the existing resources. Our participation stems from the commitment to offer various types of support, technology and solution to the mentioned concerns. The most recent of EEA's initiatives was the host of a seminar on preserving environment and promoting a zero carbon emissions environment by Prof. Phillip Jones Chair of Architectural Science Research, Welsh School of Architecture-Cardiff University, who presented his virtual views on implementing environmental standards to speed up the country development programs,” Al-Amiri added.
Water Energy Technology Environment Exhibition (WETEX) has grown by 500 percent over the previous 4 years since it was first launched in Dubai in 2004. This year edition has recorded another 100 percent growth due to the escalating global concern in environmental issues.Jotun Paints
DUBAI – Jotun Paints, one of the world's leading producers and suppliers of paints and coatings, has successfully concluded its participation at the Dubai International Boat Show 2008, which has witnessed a showcase of its “Megayacht Professional” - a range of paints especially designed for superyachts. As recent statistics show that around 30 percent of the world's superyacht owners are based in Dubai, the leading paint manufacturer's participation at the event, which was held at the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC), is part of its commitment to address the growing demand for vessel protection products across the UAE.
Developed through leading edge technology in paint and coating production, the “Megayacht Professional” range is comprised of high performance top coats, antifoulings, primers, undercoats, fillers and sealers, which have been formulated to give luxurious water vessels a silky gloss finish while keeping their underwater hulls clean. Targeting the growing number of private superyachts populating Dubai's most important marinas, the range also includes tributylin (TBT)-free antifoulings, which provide effective protection against algae and slime for vessels that are docked for long periods of time. Local yacht builders like “Gulf Craft”, “Dubai Marine”, “Al-Shaali”, and “Riviera” have showcased Jotun-painted vessels at the event, which is a true testament to the superb quality of Jotun's products.
“The maritime sector is growing at a tremendous rate and showing strong indications of further expansion as high net worth boating enthusiast turn towards local companies for the manufacturing, product support and services of superyachts,” said Gemma Gonzaelez Ferrer, W. W. Yachting Concept manager, Jotun Iberica, S.A. “The significant developments in maritime infrastructure and marine facilities being initiated by the Dubai Government will definitely increase the demand for yachts and therefore the need for top quality vessel protection paints. Our participation in this show is a reflection of our extensive capabilities in terms of delivering highly specialised paint solutions, while exemplifying our support in the advancement of the boating industry as a whole.” Volvo C30 launched
JEDDAH – Zahid Volvo cars launched recently the sporty two-door new Volvo C30 model at La Promenade-2 center here.
The C30 Design Concept has a compact, sporty design with two doors, four individual seats and a distinctive glass tailgate.
The Volvo C30 can be fitted with four- and five-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, from 1.6 to 2.5 liters. Engines available in the Middle East will be the 1.6, 2.4i and 2.5 liters Turbo Charged Engine (T5).
The styling of the C30 Design Concept is inspired by the classic Volvo P1800 ES and Volvo's recent SCC (Safety Concept Car) and incorporates today's modern Volvo styling cues such as a boat-shaped aerodynamic front section and shapely rear shoulders enhanced by the horseshoe-shaped rear light clusters.
“The rear light pattern is so unusual that you'll never be in any doubt about what car you have in front of you,” said Imran Khan, Volvo Franchise manager.
The C30 will be one of the most significant launches in Volvo history as it does not replace an existing model and is designed to appeal to new, younger customers without children who want a compact premium car that's good to drive and has plenty of style. It will take Volvo into a new sector of the market, to compete against the popular Golf GTI, Reno Megane hatchback and is part of Volvo's strategy to broaden its model.
“We know there are a large number of younger Saudis who are attracted by the Volvo brand, but cannot find a compact model in our range that exactly matches their taste and needs,” said Khan. “The Volvo C30 Design Concept has been developed precisely for this potentially important group of new customers,” he added.
Volvo carried out a media audit to gauge opinions of younger professionals and singles across the Kingdom. The results showed that most rarely a need to take more than two people, and describe their ideal car as an agile, rewarding runabout; but, significantly, a good design and brand name are particularly important for them whether buying clothes, household items or a car.Gulftainer
