A Yemeni who found a case containing 188,000 riyals in the middle of the desert has been “handsomely rewarded” after he handed his finding in to police. Officials said that after a prolonged search to identify the owner of the case it transpired that it belonged to a Saudi shepherd who had been driving his herd of sheep through the remote Mahd Al-Dhahab region to the southeast of Madina. “I thought that somebody had stolen it and I certainly never expected to see it again,” the shepherd reportedly told investigators. It was not revealed exactly how much the Yemeni was rewarded for his honesty, but the sum was described as “substantial”.
