A man who climbed ten floors of scaffolding, tied a rope around his neck and threatened to commit suicide stopped traffic in central Makkah on Sunday as crowds gathered below Zamzam Tower to watch the scene. The man, described as “suffering from mental problems”, was returned to ground level by a Civil Defense team. “The situation was dealt with very professionally by our team, and the individual has been taken to hospital as a precaution,” a Civil Defense spokesman said. “He suffered no injuries and the next few days will reveal the motives for his actions.”
