up for the past two seasons, Shawly Bowlers, captained by Arnel Bautista and Luis Pacobas, finally raised the championship trophy in jubilation when they beat top qualifier JEM Strikers in their three-game finals of the Friday Morning Bowling League 8th conference sanctioned by the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group (FEDBG) at the Bowling City here.
Finding their break halfway of the tournament supported by Bowling City Restaurant of Elie Sy, Shawly Bowlers even dominated the top for some weeks but qualified second behind JEM Strikers when the latter held the front seat on the homestretch and till the end of the elimination. Well rested, though routinely practicing, Shawly Bowlers readied themselves against Lucky Strikes of Toto Lim. Lucky Strikes survived Romy Antonio's Bowling Adiks in their full of action match wherein Amro Al-Amri recorded 772 scratch series. Primarily backed up by Larry Domingo with 622, Al-Amri lifted Lucky Strikes on games of 254, 233 and 275 to finish off Bowling Adiks at 3641-3539 on the help of Toto, Edna Domingo, Jay Bengco and Vangie Lim.
But Shawly Bowlers did not let Lucky Strikes find their luck as Bautista, Ruel Perez, Nestor Sa?osa, Max Salang, Edison Arena and Sally Sa?osa offered 1,206-1,098 and 1,191-1,123 for 176-pin misfortune in the first two games, so that though Al-Amri tried to bolster his team into winning the last game, their output was good only to win the set at 1,218-1,206. Shawly Bowlers stationed Lucky Strikes on final tallies of 3,603-3,439.
Head on against waiting Efren San Pedro-captained and managed JEM Strikers, Shawly Bowlers fielded same lineup. Against the Rommel Marasigan, Archie Santos, Faisal Relativo, E. San Pedro, Nurissa Ramos and Jeff San Pedro, the fighting six of Shawly displayed wonderful strength and skills as they edged JEM by 84 pins at 1,242-1,158 in the opening set. But unlike their previous week outing, Shawly slowed down and JEM inched by 18 pins at 1,183-1,165 on the next salvo. The last lap then was a survival game for the restaurateurs as Salang got rattled on his track. Thanks to the determination of anchor player Nestor Sa?osa who contained counterpart Jeff in 212-178 pushing of their respective team. JEM Strikers won the last two games but failed to overtake the lead which stood at 35 pins on 3,489-3,454 final tallies.
Shawly's best championship match player was TC Bautista himself with 653 (254 opener), followed by Nestor with 637 including 224 and 212, Perez with 569, Sally with 560, Salang with 543, initialed by 215, and Arena with 527. Jeff top-scored for JEM at 598, followed by TC Efren with 597, Santos 591, Relativo 583, Ramos 573 and Marasigan 512. __
