The Civil Defense here supported by experts from Riyadh will study the cause of the fire which broke out in shops and workshops in Jeddah's North Industrial City (Al-Sina'ia) Wednesday. Brig. Gen. Abdullah Bin Hasan Al-Jiddawi, Director of Civil Defense in Jeddah Governorate, said Civil Defense has formed a team to study the problem. He said that the team is working under the command of Lt. Col. Abdullah Al-Zahrani, Director of Investigations, with support from fire experts from for Civil Defense in Riyadh. They are participating in the investigations to confirm if the fire was caused by arson or it was an accident. He said that the results of the investigation would be announced within the next few days. “We will study the reasons for the occurrence of fires in the industrial city and how best to fight them,” he said. According to Al-Jiddawi, Civil Defense will review the fire safety violations that have occurred in the area, determine the reasons for them, and propose solutions for their elimination. He added that fires in the area were responsible for “big financial losses”. As to the magnitude of the losses in the Wednesday's fire, he said the locations that have been gutted by the fire are being studied by the authorities according to the regulations followed in such circumstances. Al-Jiddawi said firefighting teams quickly extinguished the Al-Sina'ia fire and prevented it from spreading to other shops which was especially important because the stored materials were highly combustible.
