The Ministry of Culture and Information has awarded the first satellite broadcasting license in the Kingdom to the Saudi Comedy Channel (SCC) for a period of three years. Famed producer Amir Al-Hamoud who runs SCC said: “This is a move that will bring us closer to Saudis. The license request did not take long, to the credit of the ministry.” Riyadh Najm, the Deputy Minister for Engineering at the ministry, said that a new television and radio broadcasting law would be studied in the near future, and also had a warning for unlicensed channels still operating after the end of the three months period given to request licenses. “Any channel that hasn't obtained the proper license will be shut down,” Najm said.
