Two children and one infant died as a fire tore through their bedroom in Karantina Monday morning. The handicapped mother of the children, who was in her room, was woken up by the screams of her children. But she could not immediately get out of her bed to rescue them or even report the fire. She could do nothing as her children burnt to death. The dilapidated house was made out of wood and was easily consumed by the blaze, a firefighter said. The house was in a poor neighborhood. It is still unclear what caused the fire, said Capt. Abdullah Al-Amri, spokesman of the Makkah Region's Civil Defense. The distraught mother suffered mild suffocation, he said.
