Former Juventus chief executive Antonio Giraudo has been sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a match-fixing scandal that shook Italian soccer, news reports said. The ANSA and Apcom news agencies said Monday Giraudo was convicted on charges of criminal association aimed at committing sports fraud by a court in Naples, Italy. Giraudo was one of the figures at the center of the 2006 scandal, together with former Juventus executive Luciano Moggi. Moggi is also on trial in Naples, along with other defendants, on similar charges. Giraudo was tried separately in a fast-track trial at his request. Moggi and Giraudo were banned from football for five years by a sports court for influencing the outcome of matches. They deny wrongdoing. Euro 2012 logo unveiled In Kiev, UEFA President Michel Platini unveiled the official logo and slogan to be used at Euro 2012 at a ceremony Monday. The logo is a design of two tulips - one red and one white - featuring the Polish and Ukrainian flags and a football, and the slogan is “Creating History Together.” Platini said: “These are two flowers which bloom, I hope that Poland and Ukraine will grow like them.” Euro 2012 is the first major football tournament to be awarded to Eastern Europe. Appearing with Platini at the unveiling was Ukraine President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. Melo ‘Flop of the Year' Juventus's Brazilian international defensive midfielder Felipe Melo was Monday named ‘Flop of the Year 2009' in a vote parodying the annual ‘Ballon d'Or' award given to Europe's top player. The award was decided via a vote by listeners of the Rai 2 radio program ‘Catersport'. Melo, who is likely to be first-choice for Brazil at next summer's World Cup, joined Juventus from Fiorentina in the close season for a fee of 25 million euros. After a strong start to the current campaign, his form has faded in recent weeks to the point where he has been jeered by supporters of his own club. Melo received 22.87 percent of the votes, enabling him to see of challenges from Inter Milan's reigning ‘Flop of the Year' Ricardo Quaresma (20.63 percent) and his own Juventus teammate Tiago (9.99 percent). The 26-year-old becomes the third Brazilian to win the dubious honour, after Rivaldo in 2003 and Adriano in 2006 and 2007. Current Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie won in 2004, with former Italy international striker Christian Vieri picking up the award the year after.
