Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 05 - 2008

Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Riyadh region, patronized on Sunday the final ceremony for the national contest of the Holy Qur'an Memorization, Intonation and Recitation for boys and girls at its tenth session.
The contest was organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance.
Speaking on the occasion, Prince Salman expressed happiness for honoring the young Muslims who have learnt by heart the Holy Qur'an.
“The Holy Qur'an is one of the great bounties bestowed by Allah Almighty on the Muslims, and when we adhere to the teachings of the Holy Qur'an to remain honored and strong, and if we fail to do so then we will be humiliated and divided, “ he said.
“We thank Allah Almighty that we live in a blessed country which has applied the Shariah law since its establishment by King Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul-Rahman Al-Saud,” he added
He noted that his brothers King Saud, King Faisal, King Khalid and King Fahd followed the footsteps of their great father in serving Islam and Muslims.
”In this promising and bright era under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and his Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, a great attention has been given to the Holy Qur'an as to its memorization, intonation, recitation and interpretation”
Prince Salman urged the youth to get acquainted with their duty towards their religion and their country.
He said the person who memorizes the Holy Qur'an should show a good example by following the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Prince Salman called the students to acquire the useful knowledge which protects them from deviation and guides them on the right path of moderation which is strongly urged by our religion.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Aal Al-Sheikh, the Kingdom's General Mufti and Head of the Senior Ulema Commission, appreciated the great attention given by Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz to the Holy Qur'an.
He noted that the Holy Qur'an is the last of the books sent by Allah Almighty to the people, lightening the way to monotheism and noble works.
On his part, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance Sheikh Salih Al Al-Sheikh underlined the importance of adherence to the Holy Qur'an and its memorization and understanding. He noted that Allah Almighty has sent the Holy Qur'an to be followed and implemented.
